Private and Custom Tours

Your own private naturalist ... when and where you want. Let us show you around Central Oregon, Northern California or Malheur Refuge in Eastern Oregon. Let us take you birding on the Oregon Coast or in the High Cascades. Regardless of where we go, we guarantee you will have a good time!

FLEXIBLE RATES AND SCHEDULE

Design a custom tour

Our basic rates include expert guiding and instruction and transportation (up to 100 mi./day) in our vehicle. Here is the basic rate structure:

$50/hour
$225/half-day (5-6 hrs.)
$335/full-day (7-10 hrs.)

We charge $0.50/mile for any miles over 100 traveled per day. If we use your vehicle, we reduce the full-day rate to $305. However, depending on your "target" species and the season of travel, we may require the use of our four-wheel-drive or high-clearance vehicle.

SPECIAL DEALS

Multi-day and group tours

Let's say you want to bird the coast for shorebirds and then the Cascades for woodpeckers. We will decrease our daily rate for extra days in the field. The following rates are based on the use of our vehicle (subtract $30/day if we use your vehicle):

2 days: $295/day
3 or more days: $280/day

These rates do not include expenses, such as lodging and food, which we expect will be incurred during multi-day trips. You may choose to pay us a $100 per diem in advance of your tour, or you may pay the actual expenses directly. For multi-day tours within Central Oregon (Bend area) no per diem will be expected.

Special Groups and Gift Certificates
Are you scheduling a trip to the region for your local Audubon chapter? How about a family reunion or a business group you want to reward? We will work with you individually to develop a custom itinerary and a rate structure that fit your budget. We also offer gift certificates in any amount that are valid for any private or group tours.

BUDGET TRAVELERS

Different Daily Guides
If you are traveling on a tight budget, we can arrange a private tour with one of our local guides in each region you wish to visit, thereby saving you the cost of covering our expenses.

Trip Planning Service
If you are on a super-tight budget, you could simply pay is to plan your trip for you. For this, we charge:
$50/hour, with a minimum charge of $50. The total cost varies with the length of your trip, but the service includes an optimal route and best birding spots, as well as lodging and food recommendations. We can even prepare maps for you, at additional expense.

WOODPECKER TOURS

Experience Woodpecker Wonderland!

In the summer of 2009, we started a new rate structure for daily woodpecker tours. These are different from regular private tours in the following ways:
--Limited to Sisters and Camp Sherman areas.
--We target primarily woodpecker species, although we will certainly still share our broad knowledge of all birds encountered along with local natural history and conservation.
--We will take up to 9 birders per day (2 guides for 7 or more people).
--Tours run on a fixed schedule, that is, you must plan to remain with the group for 4 or 8 hours, depending on the tour.

As with our regular private tours, we will pick you up at and return you to your place of lodging. All Woodpecker Tours require a minimum of 2 people. Rates are as follows:

Half-day Woodpecker Tour (4 hours) - $75/person
Full-day Woodpecker Tour (8 hours) - $130/person

We can often run Woodpecker Tours with 12 hours notice, although you are encouraged to contact us in the morning to check availability for the same day.
