 TOUR SUMMARY

I was introduced to Peru in September 2014, when the combination of jaw-dropping tropical birding and delightful Peruvian hospitality inspired me to add this tour to our calendar. We also found a tour operator, Wilson Diaz at Green Tours, who meets our very high standards for customer service, ethics, and fun! In case we needed even more motivation to take you to Peru, Wilson and I recently confirmed the presence of the magnificent and “near-threatened” Guayaquil Woodpecker near the southern limit of the species’ range—right along one of the prime spots on our tour route.

From the Pacific Coast to the Amazon Basin, this adventure offers an outstanding introduction to equatorial birding. Immerse yourself in hundreds of hummingbirds (at one time!); cross one of the world’s most magnificent mountain ranges; explore cloud forests at the upper reaches of Amazonia; and visit some extraordinary community preserves, all part of a birding experience that will leave you breathless. Let us take you to Peru!

ACCOLADES

I love all Paradise Birding trips but the Peru trip was absolutely fantastic, a really special trip. The trip was more than I could ever have imagined: life birds at every turn (over 30 species of hummingbirds alone), ecotones from the desert coast to the headwaters of the Amazon, ancient cultural sites, modern cities, rural Peruvian culture, the Andes, fantastic/friendly guides, ecological preserves, grassroots preservationists, and Machu Picchu! A truely awe inspiring trip!
